Roger Hayward, an architect and painter, was born in Keene, New Hampshire on January 7, 1899. After graduating from Boston Institute of Technology, Hayward worked as an architect for the firm of Cram and Ferguson. In his spare time, he did watercolor painting and magazine illustrations, and had his first exhibition in 1922. He moved to Los Angeles in the late 1920s and worked for Ernest Lundine, an architect. His architectural designs include the Los Angeles Stock Exchange and Doheny Library.
While following this profession, he continued to paint in both watercolor and oil. His subjects include desert landscape scenes from California and Arizona, nudes, landscapes, architectural subjects, abstracts and coastal scenes. He continued to exhibit locally. Hayward died in Merced, California on October 11, 1979.
