Peter Nielsen
(1873-1965)
Peter Nielsen was born in Denmark on April 10, 1873. He came to the United States at age 14 and settled in Chicago. Nielsen studied briefly at the Art Institute of Chicago, but was mostly a self-taught artist. In 1925, he moved to Los Angeles and became active in the local art scene. He constructed a mural with Ejnar Hansen in the Adamson House in Malibu circa 1930. He also completed a mural at the Fiesta Room in the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles (formerly the Biltmore Hotel) where several Academy Award ceremonies were held. He remained in the area until his death in Santa Ana on October 24, 1965. He is best known for landscapes and still lifes.
