John Wesley Cotton was born in Toronto, Canada on October 29, 1868. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and with E.M. Wilson in London during 1911. During WWI, he was in Belgium and France where he gathered much subject matter. He was a resident of Glendale, California in the 1920s and has received numerous favorable reviews in the Los Angeles Times for his aquatints, etchings, watercolors and oils. He returned to Toronto, and died there on November 23, 1931.
Member: California Printmakers Society; Glendale Art Association; California Watercolor Society; Associate of the National Academy of Design, 1916; California Art Club; Painters & Sculptors of Los Angeles (president, 1920s).
Exhibited: Panama-California Exposition, San Diego, 1915; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1923; Ebell Club, Los Angeles, 1924; Artland Club, Los Angeles, 1927; Pacific SW Expo, 1928.
