Carl Sammons was a painter and panelist born on May 9, 1886. Sammons began his art studies in Sioux City, Iowa while working as a sign painter. After moving to California in 1919, he studied at the California School of Fine Arts. Settling in Oakland, he traveled extensively throughout California. Many of his paintings were inspired by the Monterey Peninsula, Russian River, Humboldt County, Palm Springs, and Santa Barbara. He is best known for his representational landscapes and coastal scenes in oil and pastel. Sammons died in Oakland on February 4, 1968.
Exhibited: California Artists at the California Industries Exposition, San Diego, 1926; Golden Gate International Exposition, 1940.
Works Held: De Young Museum; Santa Barbara Historical Museum.
