Warren A. Newcombe
(1894-1960)
Warren A. Newcombe was a painter and lithographer born in Walthem, Massachusetts on April 28, 1894. Newcombe was a pupil of Joseph DeCamp and a graduate of Normal Art School in Boston (1914). He was active in Massachusetts and New York as a commercial artist before moving to Los Angeles in 1925 to work for MGM Studios as head of the special effects department. Prior to his move to California, he painted realistic portraits in the manner of Sargent; however, his works after this time were influenced by Matisse, Dufy, and the modern French School. Newcombe died in Taxco, Mexico in 1960.
