Dendrick Brandes Stuber was a landscape painter, born in New York on May 4, 1878. Stuber studied at the Art Students League in New York City and with Bridgman, Onderdonk, and the Clinton Peters. He came to California in 1920, settling in Los Angeles where he exhibited though 1940. Although he painted marines and mountain views, he is best known for his pastoral landscapes of Southern California. A plein air painter, his preferred working time was the cool, shadowy hours of sunrise when shade predominates. Stuber died in Los Angeles on August 18, 1954.
