(b. 1931)

David Leffel was born in New York in 1931, and attended Parson’s School of Design and Fordham University. Leffel is internationally recognized for his Old Master technique and approach to painting. Influenced by 17th Century Dutch Realism, he uses light and shadow to construct works that evoke a timeless beauty and air of enigma. Throughout his career, the artist has worked predominantly in New York, New Mexico, and California, and has taught and exhibited across the globe.

He studied at the Art Students League of New York, and has taught at the institution for over 30 years. Well-known to art students worldwide through his bestselling books and videos, Leffel conducts workshops throughout the country and recently launched his own annual awards program for excellence in painting. His work is held in many prominent private and public collections, and he has received numerous awards for his paintings and merits in art.
